Key Elements
At Meridian, we have incorporated treatment elements that researchers have identified as essential to helping teens and young adults who are struggling mental health issues such as oppositional defiant disorder, pervasive developmental disorders, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), conduct disorder, bipolar disorder, high risk behaviors, self-harm, substance abuse, and co-occurring disorders.
Comprehensive Assessment
You will receive a comprehensive assessment that addresses your individual clinical, learning, developmental and emotional needs. This assessment informs the individualized strategies that are developed to meet your specific needs. It is essential that we understand the specific issues that you and your family are dealing with in order to provide the most appropriate level of care, develop targeted interventions, and monitor treatment outcomes that are most important to you and your family.
Intensive and Integrated Treatment
Each day of the program is highly structured and consists of a variety of therapeutic experiences that address the young person's problems comprehensively. Our program is filled with therapeutic experiences (individual and group activities) that focus on managing symptoms, regulating emotions, remediating academic deficits, practicing prosocial skills, achieving sobriety, and developing healthy patterns of physical activity and abilities. Each of these components is an important part of the individual treatment plan.
Adolescent and Young Adult-Centered
You are viewed as a full partner in the treatment process. We believe that young people are more likely to succeed in treatment if they are active partners in creating their individual treatment plans. Our program addresses the unique difficulties that accompany adolescence and young adulthood. You will be supported in a way that is developmentally targeted to your individual needs. You will be encouraged to play a critical role and have a voice in the services you receive.
Family Partnership
Our program is inclusive of the family’s perspective and embraces the family as full partners. Families play a role in all aspects of programming. We believe that families play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of their child and that parent involvement increases the likelihood that treatment will be successful.
Research-based
Our treatment program incorporates evidence-based interventions. Evidence-based interventions refer to treatment that has been developed through research, is supported by the results of controlled treatment studies, and has guidelines and procedures for its implementation. The interventions offered at Meridian Youth Treatment Center have been selected based on existing evidence of their effectiveness with young people.
Discharge Planning
Throughout the course of treatment we are preparing the you and your family for re-integration into the community. Our commitment does not end at discharge. In order to increase the likelihood that gains made in the program will generalize to the home community, we return you to your community with needed supports in pace and seamless barriers to receiving services.
Continuous Quality Improvement
Each member of our team is invested in your wellbeing. Our hiring and training practices focus on selecting individuals who demonstrate a commitment and passion for working with adolescents and young adults, possess relevant academic or clinical training, and have a strong understanding of adolescent and young adult development. Our staff receives ongoing, extensive training and supervision as well as training and consultation services from experts in the field of mental health and substance abuse. Our program includes a “follow-up" component where we track treatment outcomes. This enables us to evaluate the effectiveness of our program and make modifications, as needed. Additionally, it provides an additional point of contact with families, so that we can maintain contact with our families, monitor ongoing needs, and link families with additional services that may be needed.
