Dr. Steven Petrus is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in psycho-educational assessment, child, adolescent and family therapy. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern California, he received his Doctorate of Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology-Los Angeles, with an emphasis in Individual, Family and Couples therapy. Dr. Petrus completed his postgraduate fellowship education at University of California-Los Angeles, Pediatrics, with training in pediatrics, child, adolescent, and family therapy and psychoeducational testing. Additionally, as a postgraduate researcher, Dr. Steven Petrus worked with children with prenatal substance exposure.
Dr. Petrus has provided direct care for youth, families and parents at multiple institutions including: the Maple Counseling Center, Glen Roberts Child Study Center, and Childrens Hospital-Los Angeles. He served as the Assistant Clinical Director at Casa Pacifica, a large, level 14 residential treatment center and shelter care program for children and adolescents. Dr. Petrus provided family therapy at ECHO Malibu Treatment Center and currently runs his private clinic, Petrus Psychology Professional Corporation- an outpatient treatment program that serves children, adolescents, families and adults.
Dr. Petrus has extensive experience working with clients ranging in age from elementary school through adulthood in a variety of treatment settings including: community mental health centers, homeless youth agencies, school-based mental health clinics, substance abuse treatment centers, residential treatment facilities and private practice.
Dr. Petrus currently conducts community workshops on topics such as substance abuse prevention, healthy parenting, stress management and emotional wellness. He is a member of the Psychological Honor Society, Psi-Chi and is a member of the American Psychological Association.
